IDF 2008: Intel CTO Says Gap between Humans, Machines will Close by 2050

Intel Corporation’s chief technology officer took a fascinating look at how technology will bring man and machine much closer together by 2050.
Justin Rattner, during his keynote today at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, predicted big changes are ahead in social interactions, robotics and improvements in computer’s ability to sense the real world. He said Intel’s research labs are already looking at human-machine interfaces and examining future implications to computing with some promising changes coming much sooner than expected.

IDF 2008: Dot Hill Announces Plans to Support Intel System on a Chip Platform

Dot Hill Systems Corp. (NASDAQ:HILL) , a world-class provider of entry-level and midrange storage innovations for OEMs and system integrators (SIs), today announced plans to develop future storage solutions based on the Intel(R) EP80579 Integrated Processor family, formerly known as Tolapai.
The highly integrated System on Chip (SoC) architecture, based on the same blueprint as Intel’s existing processors, will offer new levels of performance and energy efficiency versus traditional SoCs, combine multiple functions, and will be customized to target the company’s traditional computing businesses as well as several growth areas. The combination of the Intel EP80579, Dot Hill’s proprietary RAID controller architecture, and patented PCI interconnect (operating at PCI Express speeds) allows Dot Hill to leapfrog the competition with its next-generation controllers in terms of host-attach performance, drive-attach versatility, end-user ease-of-use, and data management services. Intel Corporation and Yahoo! Inc. today previewed plans for the Widget Channel, a television (TV) application framework optimized for TV and related consumer electronics (CE) devices that use the Intel Architecture. The Widget Channel will allow consumers to enjoy rich Internet applications designed for the TV while watching their favorite TV programs. The Widget Channel will be powered by the Yahoo! Widget Engine, a fifth-generation applications platform that will enable TV watchers to interact with and enjoy a rich set of “TV Widgets,” or small Internet applications designed to complement and enhance the traditional TV watching experience and bring content, information and community features available on the Internet within easy reach of the remote control. The Widget Channel will also allow developers to use JAVASCRIPT, XML, HTML and Adobe® Flash® technology to write TV applications for the platform, extending the power and compatibility of PC application developer programs to TV and related CE devices. In addition to supporting the Yahoo! Widget Engine, Yahoo! will also provide consumers Yahoo!-branded TV Widgets that are customized based on its category-leading Internet services. Read more
IDF 2008: California Micro Devices to Showcase MIPI(TM) Display Controller Architecture for Intel-Based Mobile Internet Devices at Intel Developer Forum

California Micro Devices (NASDAQ:CAMD) announced that it is developing display controllers based upon the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI(TM)) alliance standard for high speed serial display interfaces. These display controllers will be used in next generation Intel-based Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and are being showcased in the MID Ecosystem Community at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, California, from August 19 through 21, 2008.
