August 23, 2008

More Than 81,000 Gamers Storm the Exhibition Centre on Saturday

Europe’s benchmark fair for interactive entertainment, infotainment, edutainment and hardware, the GC – Games Convention, continues to be a visitor magnet. Only a few minutes after the halls opened on Saturday, thousands of computer and video gamers stormed the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre. On what is traditionally the highest attendance day for the public, the Leipziger Messe counted more than 81,000 gamers (2007: 70,000). This is a new record in the 13-year history of the new Leipzig Exhibition Centre. It means that since Wednesday, the GC – Games Convention’s official day for trade visitors and the media, 170,500 private and trade visitors have already come to see the innovations presented by 547 exhibitors.

“The GC – Games Convention has reached its climax. Never before have so many visitors come to the Leipziger Messe on a single day. Thanks to our flexibly arranged site and two newly installed connecting tube walkways, we have had no problems dealing with the crowds”, said Wolfgang Marzin, CEO of the Leipziger Messe.

On an area of 115,000 square metres, the GC – Games Convention will still be showing all the latest products and trends in interactive entertainment all through tomorrow, Sunday, the last day of the fair, when the halls are open from 9.00 to 18.00.
