Since its inception, the special area known as “Academy meets photokina” has served as a central point of contact for art students and young photographers at photokina. Here, universities, colleges, and art academies from Germany and abroad present their latest photographic and imaging projects, degree projects, and exhibitions. Through these presentations they offer visitors an interesting glimpse into the creative possibilities of digital imaging. This year’s “Academy meets photokina” will provide young talents with another reason why they shouldn’t miss the world’s leading imaging fair: the student magazine of the newspaper DIE ZEIT will set up the Zeit Campus Lounge in Hall 1. “Rhythms Del Mundo – Cubano Alemán“ is a collaboration of Cuba’s best musicians, members of the Buena Vista Social Club, and Germany’s top artists Silbermond, Juli, Adel Tawil of Ich+Ich, 2raumwohnung, Culcha Candela and Jan Delay, who will be presenting this musical highlight during IFA 2008, at 8 p.m. on Sunday, 31 August.
Besides Silbermond, Juli and Adel Tawil of Ich+Ich, Culcha Candela, Jan Delay and 2Raumwohnung are among those who have recorded new arrangements of their greatest hits with the Buena Vista Social Club. “Rhythms Del Mundo – Cuba“, the Buena Vista Social Club’s first album in 2007, which featured international artists such as U2, Coldplay, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Jack Johnson, honoured Ibrahim Ferrer, their deceased friend and a co-founder of the club.
