Intelligent Coconuts: Get some sleep
August 30, 2007

Don’t you just hate it when your special someone is whispering the most beautiful things you ever heard on your phone, and this aircraft scurries past the skies leaving you with anger and frustration at not having afforded a more secluded home?
It’s almost as if someone just blew the trumpet on your ear when you were falling into a dream. Sure, it may be some time before we can get rid ourselves of this anxiety, but surefire efforts are on its way to monitor this aircraft noise, by coconuts hung on trees near residential complexes. No, they are not robotic coconuts, but are coconuts with custom built-in sensors. They simply record the noise, and the moment an aircraft is creating more noise than aloud, the phones at the airport get ringing to keep track of the aircraft. These recordings of course are later used for screening for aircraft issues.
That’s a welcome device, however it will currently be used only at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. I sure hope they make it possible everywhere, and most importantly they implement their promises on working on those recordings. Else those coconuts up there are no good at all. (NR)
